Fox News OpinionIt’s time for Republicans to stand up for the free market, including agricultureFox News Opinion | SpendingBy Phil Kerpen I once saw a very conservative member of Congress, someone I respect and with whom I have worked on many issues, tell a room full of free-market activists that he considers himself 99 percent free market capitalist and 1 percent socialist – when it comes to agricultural subsidies. Quite simply, ag subsidies have become a third-rail entitlement and are out of control. Read the rest at Fox News Opinion. EPA video reveals Team Obama's scary crusade against affordable, reliable energyEnergy | Fox News OpinionBy Phil Kerpen The EPA is supposed to protect the environment, not crucify industries that it dislikes. But as the sensational video that recently surfaced shows, all too often the agency does the latter. If the problem began and ended with EPA Region 6 administrator Al Armendariz, then dismissing him would be enough to solve it. Unfortunately, Armendariz merely used more colorful language to describe an approach that has driven the agenda of President Obama's EPA. Read the rest at Fox News Opinion. Will the Senate stand up to Obama’s union strongmen?Fox News Opinion | LaborBy Phil Kerpen Monday, even the reliably pro-Obama New York Times woke up to the reality that Obama is now routinely bypassing Congress to govern by bureaucrat decree (a fact they could have learned in great detail in my book "Democracy Denied" by the way, but I digress). Today, the United States Senate will have an opportunity to do something about it, when they vote later this afternoon on the Enzi Resolution, S.J. It's a fact -- tax hikes don’t workFox News Opinion | Tax ReformBy Phil Kerpen President Obama and Democrats in Congress are trying to use the deficits created by their spending spree as an excuse to raise taxes. All we have to do is tax the millionaires and billionaires, they say, and our deficits will disappear. But it’s an historical fact that higher tax rates don’t raise revenues. When pressed, Obama admits the real goal is not revenue at all. He’s for tax hikes even if they hurt the economy and make the deficit worse. It’s a reckless approach that puts punishing success ahead of growing the economy and creating jobs. Read the rest at Fox News Opinion. Debit card price controls, a lesson in cronyismFox News OpinionBy Phil Kerpen Six months ago, the Federal Reserve implemented price controls on debit card swipe fees under the Durbin Amendment, one of the many deeply misguided provisions of Dodd-Frank. Proponents of the price controls insisted that the lower transaction fees would be passed on to customers in lower prices at the register, but six months of experience have shown that this experiment in regulatory intrusion has been all pain and no gain for consumers. Electric rates will soar now that Obama's EPA has crushed coal-fired power plantsEnergy | Fox News OpinionBy Phil Kerpen Published March 29, 2012 | FoxNews.com With the country focused on this week’s high drama at the Supreme Court, President Obama’s EPA quietly released long-delayed regulations to apply global warming rules never authorized by Congress to new coal-fired power plants. That Obama’s EPA would release a rule to destroy coal-fired electricity while the president gives stump speeches about an “all of the above” energy policy is an insult to the American people.
